Evaluation of Single Cam
The experience of creating a single camera production was extremely interesting, challenging and enjoyable. I learnt many new skills creating my first short film, managing a production team and crew, directing my actors to do what I required of them. Providing instructions for my crew and tasks that which they had to complete to continue the films production. The Pre-Production was extremely interesting, realising the sheer intensity and planning/preparation required for even a small film, If I had a larger team, this would of gone smoothly, but as my narrative for the film was extremely creative and made used of various elements of Special Effects, both in the production and post-production elements of the film.
One of the many things I discovered and learnt whilst in production, was that working with a team, that we all had to work together and do our part to make the film possible. Due to the lack of confidence made apparent during the pitch of my film, I had to work hard to ensure that my team was motivated and confident that we could make the film a reality. With sheer devotion and hard work, we completed the production on the film and began our edit of the film, making the final product extremely interesting and display of our abilities of working on such a challenging production, showing perseverance and passion.
Review and Analysis of My Film
Shelly O'Brien - Film Studies Lecturer, Sheffield Hallam University (Focuses on Horror)
Yes - it is amateur at this point and pretty rough around the edges in places, but there is certainly potential there! I like some of the graphics work SFX wise and the music works well keeping the pace. It's really the narrative flow which needs work. It's a bit hard to follow at times and needs clearer shifts between scenes and events. I liked the actual idea but felt it needed better exposition at the start and also sometimes the dialogue was difficult to make out - the lead actor spoke a bit too fast at times and articulation needs to be be clearer. He also needs to consider aspects of suspense - I know that it's a bit jokey but even here this could have given a few jumps haha!There is obviously a lot to improve on (and I say this as a constructive criticism) but overall I think that, as first effort with no budget, he's done really well. If he can do this with no experience and no budget it shows that he has an eye for angles of shot, composition, and imagination above all! Everyone has to start somewhere after all! My best mate is a filmmaker and he learns stuff everytime he makes a new one! Tell Callum that I think he'll really benefit from his course and I wish him all the best!! I'm sure he will get better and better.

This was extremely helpful constructive criticism as it pointed out that with further education and experience what we are expected to achieve, what we could develop on and areas to work on. Shelly was correct that as it was a horror genre, that I should have used more jump cuts, created more tension and atmosphere, and if i could go back and re-shoot my film, I would use this review as guidelines on what to improve.
